Situation of self-employed female engineers in Austria

 

The study examines the topic of self-employment among women in the fields of technology and engineering science. It examines the specific fields of activity which the female engineers operate in, their general everyday working life and specific experiences of and motives for founding a company.

 

The research questions underlying the study were the following, among others:

 

  • How many self-employed female engineers are there in Austria?
  • How do self-employed female engineers in Austria live and work?
  • Which areas do self-employed female engineers in Austria work in?
  • How do self-employed female engineers experience their occupational situation?
  • Which motives prompted the female engineers to opt for self-employment?

 

The study provides a quantitative and qualitative database on self-employed female engineers in Austria for the first time: it provides information concerning self-employment and places special focus on the specific conditions of company founders in engineering.
